The Paddock Bomb! (Caboodle Farm Series) by Shahron Ameer is a tale about a family just finishing up morning chores and getting ready to go with Dad on their morning outing. This outing leads them to a farm auction where Dad surprises Martina and Andy with an old clunker that he’d just bought. He tells them that it will be theirs one day when they learn how to drive, but the caveat is that they must try to help clean and fix it up. That leads their excitement down an imaginative world of wonder as they help clean the old car each day. From a caboose on the back of an elephant in a jungle to a Matilda II tank in northern Africa, Andy and Martina take readers along with them inside their world of wonder as they clean their future car.
Shahron Ameer offers readers a unique read in The Paddock Bomb! The narrative moves at a very modest pace throughout, never losing readers’ interest. Caroline Webb’s illustrations are soft, warm, and inviting, bringing the story to life with the color-splotched car and the colorful world of Andy and Martina’s imagination. This delightful tale teaches the importance of working together to achieve a goal. It also showcases a healthy family dynamic, with the parents teaching the children responsibility through chores.
There is so much to love about The Paddock Bomb! It’s more than a tale of imagination; it’s also a tale that highlights daily farm life that’s happening on the Caboodle farm, from cows getting out of their pen to baby Lucas almost falling off the bales of hay. Life is busy and just a little messy at times on the Caboodle Farm.
The Paddock Bomb! should be on every young reader’s shelf.
